Known silicosis cases in Australia rapidly rising

Silicosis is a preventable but incurable lung disease linked to engineered stone used commonly in kitchen benchtops. When the stone is cut, the silica dust can be inhaled. Silica dust has been referred to by some as 'the asbestos of the 2020s'. The full scale of silicosis in Australia is not known but the numbers are rapidly rising.

Watch St Vincent's Respiratory Physician, Professor Deborah Yates talk more about silicosis in this short video.
